Payroll in Belgium
Foreign companies are not required to be legally registered in Belgium in order to deliver Belgian payroll. They also do not have to set up in-country bank accounts to make payments to employees and tax authorities.
Once established, foreign businesses need to register with the social security authority to secure a VAT number, then register for Labour Accident Insurance.
To manage their regulatory obligations, companies should use Belgium’s online Ondernemingsloket system.
Taxation in Belgium
The tax rate for Belgium ranges from 25% to 50% based on income. This variable rate changes annually, while the social security rates change every quarter. Companies must pay employer and employee contributions to the National Social Security Office quarterly, with employer contributions averaging between 32-38% and employee contributions amounting to 13.07% of gross salary.
